The U-534 being lifted into place at the Woodside Ferry Terminal

U-534 has been prepared and cut into sections on site whilst at Mortar Mill Quay, Birkenhead. Each of the sections was moved during the week of 10 March 2008 by floating crane to Woodside Ferry Terminal, Birkenhead. The photographs here show the vessel immediately after the move. The next stage of the work will see high quality glazed panels and cowlings installed to enable visitors to look inside the submarine. Various interactive exhibits, audio visual shows and interpretative materials will fully explain the story of the U-534 in a purpose built visitor centre extension to the existing ferry terminal.

"U-Boat Story" is expected to open as an attraction towards the end of September 2008. Please re-visit this page for future updates or add your name here to our email news update list for U-Boat information.
