Bring learning to life
Mersey Ferries trips are top of the class for school groups when it comes to things to do in Liverpool. We offer fun and interactive learning for children that’s backed up by support and resources for teachers. We even provide free places for teachers too.
The Mersey Ferry 'Snowdrop' is the only operating Dazzle Ship in the UK. Esteemed British pop-artist Sir Peter Blake has created the design as part of the country’s World War One Commemorations. So not only can your class see Liverpool’s waterfront - a UNESCO World Heritage Site at its best but they’ll also be taking a journey on a commemorative moving artwork. Our daily River Explorer Cruise sails on the hour from the Pier Head which offers the best way to see the Dazzle Ferry, check when the boat will be on the river here.
There’s informative commentary onboard too peppered with historic facts and tales offering your students a great yet informal way to learn more about the river Mersey, Liverpool and Wirral. Our school safety document can help you plan your day out as well as help with standard risk assessments for the visit. We also have a humanities education pack for Key Stage 2 and 3 which focuses on the development of the Liverpool City Centre, ideally suited for history and geography learning. We also have an online educational resource for the Dazzle Ferry produced by Liverpool Biennial.
Groups can start their journey from any of our three terminals, with return tickets allowing you to break the journey and rejoin the cruise later in the day. This means you can combine a cruise with a visit to one of our three educational attractions on the riverside:
U-Boat Story - This exhibition at Woodside Ferry Terminal offers a chance to examine historic World War Two themes and take a look at a magnificent piece of engineering as your class views a real German U-boat. Free admission to U-Boat Story is included with River Explorer Cruise tickets.
Spaceport – Explore the science of space and help their learning blast off with this multi-dimensional attraction. There’s also an opportunity to visit the new interactive zones 'Feel the Force' & 'See the Light' and learn about the influence of science in space.
Please note Friday 13 December is the last date for school visits to Spaceport, due to the attraction closing on Tuesday 31 December.
