If you are looking for somewhere to scatter the ashes of a loved one, Mersey Ferries can help.
We offer you the opportunity to scatter ashes over the River Mersey from a dedicated area aboard a Mersey Ferry.
This is available on weekdays and weekends. Scatterings are available at the following times (subject to availability):
Monday- Friday: 10.00am and 11.00am sailings from Liverpool Gerry Marsden, Pier Head, Liverpool
Monday - Friday: 10:20am and 11.20am sailings from Seacombe, Wirral
Weekends - 10.00am and 11.00am sailings from Liverpool Gerry Marsden, Pier Head, Liverpool
Weekends - 10.20am and 11.20am sailings from Seacombe, Wirral
The area for ashes scatterings is not open to the general public, so you must book in advance.
During the 50-minute cruise, at the Captain’s discretion, the engines will be stopped and you will have approximately 3 - 5 minutes to scatter the ashes and to say a few words, if you wish. Once you have scattered the ashes, the engines will be restarted and the River Explorer Cruise will continue. One of our crew members will assist you with the scattering.
You can bring flowers to be cast into the river but you must remove all plastic and wrapping. Tributes, memorabilia and urns must be biodegradable.
We do not charge an additional fee for ashes scatterings, but each member of the group needs to buy a River Explorer Cruise ticket, which is £12.00 for adults, £10.50 for concessions and £8.00 for children (aged 5-15). Payment will be taken on the day at the ferry terminal. Ashes scatterings cannot be booked online.
The area for ashes scatterings comfortably holds up to 20 people, larger parties will be accommodated around the sides of the ferry.
If you wish to book, please e-mail [email protected] with your preferred date, time, contact number and the number of people attending. Please note that this service is available by pre-booking only and cannot be booked online.
Due to the high demand for this service, it may be up to 5 working days before we can respond to your enquiry.
We are writing to thank everyone involved with Mersey Ferries for their support, care and kindness for our family and friends who gathered to scatter our mother Olive’s ashes from the Royal Iris last Sunday. The crew were simply wonderful, and it made the moment even more moving and memorable for us. Thank you!
