"One of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World!"
"The Manchester Ship Canal is an extraordinary feat of Victorian enterprise and engineering. The deep water canal, 36 miles long, was completed in just 6 years to enable ocean-going ships to deliver and collect cargo along the route and in the heart of Manchester. Swing bridges that carried roads and a canal across the canal still work as well as when they were constructed over a century ago, and huge locks and wharfs bear witness to how busy the canal once was. The famous Mersey ferry boats are used for the cruises. There is a fascinating running commentary during the 6-hour journey, and light refreshments on board include the equally famous 'scouse' meal. Free parking at Seacombe Ferry is a bonus if going by car. The trip can also be made from Manchester. It is a wonderful opportunity to see how the canal contributed so much to the prosperity of the area, and it is excellent value." Rated 5 of 5 on Tripadvisor
