On this page, you can learn about our publication scheme and why it has been developed. We are committed to openness, transparency and accountability at every level, and through this website we aim to provide as much information as possible on our plans, policies and performance.

Merseytravel is committed to acting in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).

FOIA gives the public the right to request any recorded information held by public bodies such as Merseytravel, while EIR provides a similar right of access to environmental information.

In order for a request under to be valid it must

  • be in writing for FOIA requests (EIR requests can be made verbally);
  • state your name and an address for correspondence; and
  • describe the information you are requesting.

Making a request is free of charge (charges may apply for things such as photocopying and postage), and Merseytravel will respond within 20 working days.

The requested information will be provided unless an exemption or exception applies, such as commercial sensitivity or it contains third party personal information, or if responding would take more than 18 hours of work. If the latter is the case, Merseytravel will let you know what information could be provided within this time.

To make a request, or if you have any other questions about FOIA or EIR, please contact [email protected]

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner if you believe that Merseytravel have failed to fulfil our obligations under either FOIA or EIR. Contact details for the Commissioner, along with guidance on the legislation, can be found at www.ico.org.uk

One requirement of FOIA is that public authorities should be clear and proactive about the information they will make public. To do this they must produce a Publication Scheme, setting out:

  • the classes of information which they publish or intend to publish;
  • the manner in which the information will be published; and
  • whether the information is available free of charge or on payment.

Merseytravel’s Publication Scheme consists of information already published and held by us, or information which is to be published in the future. That means that all information in our Publication Scheme is either available electronically for you to download or in hard copy.
